Cody Rhodes is one of the founding fathers of All Elite Wrestling when the company was announced to the world on a episode of “Being The Elite” on January 1st, 2019. Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, and Kenny Omega were all named as Executive Vice Presidents of the upstart company at the time and AEW was off to the races.
Fast forward three years later and some things have changed. AEW President Tony Khan has changed the titles of EVP’s of the The Bucks, Omega and Cody and they were offered regular talent contracts.
The Young Bucks have already re-signed and Kenny Omega will be eligible for re-signing in 2023, this leaves Cody Rhodes whose contract has expired with no deal.
The general census backstage at AEW is that Cody Rhodes is very much staying with AEW but no official deal has been signed. Cody Rhodes is a master at working the audience and with the Royal Rumble this weekend many believe he is working the internet to believe there is a chance he shows up.
Cody Rhodes very much would like a Executive Vice President contract but Tony Khan has done away with those deals. Tony Khan wants complete control of AEW to make sure it is not driven simply by the sole focus of “taking out WWE”.
There is also possibilities Cody Rhodes appears in other AEW friendly promotions like IMPACT, NWA and GCW.
AEW is where many believe Cody Rhodes will be staying and while a EVP contract would be nice there is still plenty of opportunities in AEW to be reached.
