The 2022 Royal Rumble is upon us and now the speed on the road to WrestleMania picks up.
The traditional 30-man over the top rope has been a traditional part of the WWE universe since January 1988, when the first Royal Rumble took place in Hamilton Ontario, Canada and saw “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan winning the very first Royal Rumble.
The Royal Rumble was conceived by longtime McMahon family friend Pat Patterson.
WWE officials have been hard at work on the planning for this years Royal Rumble matches and a few surprises are lined up for this match.
WWE has some NXT talents lined up for the match and one NXT star Vince McMahon is focused on premiering is NXT Champion Bron Breakker. WWE officials want to display a strong performance for Breakker at the Royal Rumble and give him a bigger stage to display his talents. This will also be a preview for the WWE Universe to get familiar with Bron Breakker.
Johnny Knocksville from the MTV show Jackass will be in the Royal Rumble match to set up future WrestleMania 38 programs, likely with Sami Zayn.
In regards to potential Royal Rumble winners WWE officials have not made the final decision at this time but a few names keep appearing at internal meetings. Below is the list.
• Kevin Owens – KO recently signed a new multi-year contract worth in the millions. Vince McMahon is keen on using KO prominently, as he does not want to waste the money being spent on Kevin Owens. Look for KO to be in the final four.
• Big E – The power of positivity could push Big E to the promised land as a change to his WWE Championship program was cut short when Brock Lesnar took his championship. Now WWE is discussing how to get Big E back on track and one of those ideas is a Royal Rumble win. This will redeem his loss to Brock and give a sign to the WWE Universe that WWE officials are listening after New Day members Kofi Kingston and Big E lost their titles in shocking fashion. Look for Big E to be a major factor in the Royal Rumble match.
• AJ Styles – The Phenomenal One has been out of the WWE Championship scene for some time. We recently reported on WWE’s plans to rejuvenate AJ Styles and make him a major player again. Styles is the wild card here.
